Transport Safety

(5:00pm refreshments for ) 5:15pm - 6:45pm

Monday 8th November 2010

VicRoads Theatrette, 60 Denmark St, Kew

This month's Technical Forum will cover a wide range of transport safety issues from new technology, through to new policy perspectives and the practical delivery of local government road safety programs.

The first presentation will provide insight into the development of a trial to allow vehicle to vehicle and vehicle to infrastructure communication to improve the safety of level crossings as part of the Cooperative Research Centre for Advanced Automotive Technology (AutoCRC) Program.

The second presentation investigates the connection between enforcement and deterrence models in relation to speed limit compliance and real world road safety outcomes and associated costs.  The presenter has developed a model to consider the economic impacts and relative merits of different enforcement approaches.

The third presentation will outline the approach being undertaken by the City of Stonnington in implementing the Arrive Alive strategy at a local level. The approach utilises the Safe System; safer roads and roadsides, safer vehicles and safer road users.
